The purpose of cosmetic rhinoplasty is to reshape the nose to improve its appearance. It may involve reducing or enlarging the nose tip, changing the shape of the nostrils, or reducing the size of the nasal bridge. Patients are advised to wait until their noses are fully formed and mature before contemplating surgery. Females generally must be 17 years old, and males must be at least 18 years old.
Rhinoplasties are not performed only for aesthetic purposes. They can help improve breathing by altering a dysfunctional nasal structure that interferes with proper breathing. The septum can be straightened, or new structures can be built to offer enhanced support to the nose to improve breathing. You may need a reconstructive procedure which is nasal airway obstruction for deviated nasal septums and turbinate hyperplasia. Corrective rhinoplasty procedures may be paid for with insurance.
