BOTOX® IN LOS ALTOS, CA

Despite the rise and fall of many cosmetic procedures over the years, Botox has always been one of the most popular treatment options for reducing the signs of aging. At Mittelman Plastic Surgery in Los Altos, board-certified facial plastic surgeon Harry Mittelman, MD, is pleased to offer this safe and effective treatment to residents living in and around San Jose, Palo Alto and the surrounding communities of California. Dr. Mittelman has treated thousands of patients who are concerned about decreasing or preventing unwanted facial lines and wrinkles.

Botox® should only be injected by a trained certified physician who has an intimate knowledge and understanding of the muscular anatomy of the face, as well as the aesthetic perspective of proper placement.

WHAT IS BOTOX®?

Botox is an injectable skin rejuvenation treatment that is designed to improve the signs of aging by minimizing fine lines and wrinkles. While this cosmetic product is most known for providing a youthful appearance, Botox® has been used to treat an overactive bladder and migraines.

BOTOX BENEFITS

Botox® may be the perfect procedure if you would like to:

  • Temporarily reduce wrinkles and fine lines on the face
  • Obtain younger, softer and smoother skin
  • Experience relief from migraines

Botox® treatment is frequently used by people who are dissatisfied with the age-related changes on their face. After the procedure, many people report feeling healthier, younger and more self-confident.

IS BOTOX® RIGHT FOR ME?

WHERE CAN BOTOX® BE APPLIED?

  • Eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet
  • Bunny lines
  • Frown lines
  • Platysmal bands
  • Forehead lines
  • Lip or smoker’s lines
  • Gummy smiles
  • Chin dimples
  • Marionette lines

HOW IS BOTOX® ADMINISTERED?

Botox® is most often administered after a local anesthetic has been injected into the treatment area. Because Botox® is not usually an uncomfortable procedure, many patients do not request medicine to reduce or prevent pain. Dr. Mittelman will then deliver Botox® into the muscles of your face by using an ultrafine hypodermic needle. Depending on the number and severity of the fine lines and wrinkles, some patients will need multiple injections. Typically, patients can expect the results of the treatment to last between four and six months before needing to return for additional treatments.

BOTOX® PROCEDURE PREPARATION

Before your scheduled treatment, you should notify Dr. Mittelman if you have received other kinds of injections within the past four months and if you’re taking allergy drugs, sleep aids or muscle relaxers. Dr. Mittelman recommends that you avoid medicines such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood-thinning drugs prior to your appointment. These types of drugs may increase the risk of bleeding and bruising.

BOTOX® RECOVERY

After your Botox® treatment, it’s a good idea to avoid participating in rigorous exercise and rubbing your face harshly. You are also encouraged to avoid exposing your face to prolonged pressure by not sleeping on your stomach or sides. In order to alleviate post-treatment discomfort, you can apply a cold compress to the treatment areas and take pain relievers. You will still be able to smile or frown after the Botox® procedure.

BOTOX® CONSULTATION

During your consultation, Dr. Mittelman will review your medical history, respond to any concerns and describe the procedure to you. During the meeting, don’t hesitate to ask as many questions as necessary so that you may gain a thorough understanding of the Botox® procedure.

BOTOX® FOR EXCESSIVE SWEATING (HYPERHIDROSIS)

Botox® has also been shown to be effective for other problems completely unrelated to facial lines and wrinkles. Botox® can help reduce excessive sweating of the armpits (hyperhidrosis). Hyperhidrosis treatments, like facial wrinkles, must be repeated to maintain effectiveness.

BOTOX® INJECTION MIGRAINE TREATMENTS

Botox® is also FDA-approved and useful for non-aesthetic facial problems, such as for the treatment of migraines. A few injections can produce a remarkable reduction in the severity and frequency of migraine headaches. Neuromuscular injections can be used as an effective treatment or as an adjuvant therapy with traditional pharmacologic migraine treatment.

HOW MUCH DOES BOTOX® TREATMENT COST IN SAN JOSE?

Because cosmetic procedures such as Botox® are not considered medically necessary, your insurance company probably will not cover the cost of treatment. To ensure that Botox® is accessible to as many patients as possible, Mittelman Plastic Surgery accepts credit cards, personal checks, and cash. Please contact us if you have any questions about the price of the Botox® procedure.

DYSPORT IN LOS ALTOS, CA

Dysport is a great solution for many Repetitive facial muscle movements that cause many facial wrinkles, such as crow’s feet, worry lines, and frown lines. These wrinkles typically appear across the forehead, in the eye region, and between the eyebrows. These early signs of aging may be minimized with Dysport®, a non-surgical, FDA-approved dermal filler. Located in Los Altos, Mittelman Plastic Surgery, led by board-certified facial plastic surgeon Harry Mittelman, MD, offers Dysport® to men and women who live in and around San Jose, Palo Alto, and the surrounding communities of California.

WHAT IS DYSPORT?

Dysport is a relatively new treatment, similar to Botox®, which temporarily smooths and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles.

When used alone is capable of significantly diminishing fine lines and wrinkles in the upper region of the face. When combined with a dermal filler, results may be enhanced with contouring and volume. During treatment, Dysport® is injected into facial muscles to alter their activity. The treatment temporarily relaxes the target muscle, preventing it from contracting, thus producing a smoother appearance.

DYSPORT® VS. BOTOX®

Although many people use the terms Dysport® and Botox® interchangeably, there are a few significant differences between the two products. Dysport typically takes effect more quickly than Botox®, often within a day of treatment, while Botox® may take five to seven days to begin taking effect.

There are also differences in dosages and pricing between Dysport and Botox. Whereas one patient may require one unit dosage of Botox®, that same patient might require two to three times that unit dosage of Dysport® in order to get the same effect. Nonetheless, over time, Dysport® and Botox® are comparable in value and price.

Additionally, Dysport® has a tendency to spread more than Botox®, which is taken into consideration while we administer the treatment.

WHY CHOOSE DYSPORT®?

Many patients choose Dysport for a number of reasons, the main one being that it yields fantastic results. It is one of the best ways to gain back a refreshed and youthful appearance without the expense and recovery period of surgery. Dysport® treats various types of wrinkles, including lip and neck wrinkles, crow’s feet, frown lines, worry lines across the forehead, and more. The procedure is safe, simple, and quick, and there is no recovery period. Results are typically seen within a day after treatment and for most, there are little to no side effects or discomfort.

Dysport® initially appeared in 1991 as a treatment for muscle spasms and disorders, and has been used by doctors globally, with a safe and successful track record. Over time, Dysport® has become an accepted treatment for many conditions in over 75 countries in the world.

If, after evaluating your condition during the initial evaluation, we determine that you would benefit from a Dysport® treatment, treatment may begin immediately. Dr. Mittelman will analyze your face to determine the amount of product required to achieve optimal results. Dysport® is injected via a syringe with a very fine needle. The procedure takes under 15 minutes, depending on the number of areas that are being treated, and a topical anesthetic, as well as ice packs, may be utilized to keep you comfortable. Most patients report minimal discomfort during the procedure. There are very few problems or complications after Dysport® treatments. In rare cases, temporary bruising may occur, but this subsides within two to three days. Some patients may experience discomfort around the injection site(s), and in rare cases, headache and inflammation.

ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR DYSPORT?

If you’ve started seeing wrinkles around your eyes, forehead and the upper bridge of the nose, then Dysport® may be right for you, as long as you are in generally good health. You should also maintain reasonable expectations regarding what Dysport® can do. Dysport® may not be suitable for you if you are allergic to abobotulinumtoxin.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE DYSPORT PROCEDURE?

Although the treatment is performed quickly, it may take several days before the results are totally visible. Bear in mind that initial results are typically seen within 24 hours. Although a small amount of discomfort may be experienced immediately following the procedure, it will normally subside quickly.

HOW SOON CAN I RETURN TO WORK AFTER DYSPORT®?

Dysport requires no recovery time so you may return to work immediately following the procedure. We recommend that you wait for 24 hours after treatment before exercising.

HOW MUCH DOES DYSPORT® COST IN SAN JOSE?

The cost of Dysport varies between patients and is determined by how much is used in your treatment.
