Botox®
BOTOX® IN LOS ALTOS, CA
Despite the rise and fall of many cosmetic procedures over the years, Botox has always been one of the most popular treatment options for reducing the signs of aging. At Mittelman Plastic Surgery in Los Altos, board-certified facial plastic surgeon Harry Mittelman, MD, is pleased to offer this safe and effective treatment to residents living in and around San Jose, Palo Alto and the surrounding communities of California. Dr. Mittelman has treated thousands of patients who are concerned about decreasing or preventing unwanted facial lines and wrinkles. Botox® should only be injected by a trained certified physician who has an intimate knowledge and understanding of the muscular anatomy of the face, as well as the aesthetic perspective of proper placement.
WHAT IS BOTOX®?
Botox is an injectable skin rejuvenation treatment that is designed to improve the signs of aging by minimizing fine lines and wrinkles. While this cosmetic product is most known for providing a youthful appearance, Botox® has been used to treat an overactive bladder and migraines.
BOTOX BENEFITS
Botox® may be the perfect procedure if you would like to:
- Temporarily reduce wrinkles and fine lines on the face
- Obtain younger, softer and smoother skin
- Experience relief from migraines
- Control underarm sweating
Botox® treatment is frequently used by people who are dissatisfied with the age-related changes on their face. After the procedure, many people report feeling healthier, younger and more self-confident.
IS BOTOX® RIGHT FOR ME?
Although it’s ultimately your choice to determine if Botox® is the right treatment for you, we believe that the procedure will be able to help most people who are unhappy with their wrinkles or fine lines.
WHERE CAN BOTOX® BE APPLIED?
- Eyebrows
- Crow’s feet
- Bunny lines
- Frown lines
- Platysmal bands
- Forehead lines
- Lip or smoker’s lines
- Gummy smiles
- Chin dimples
- Marionette lines
HOW IS BOTOX® ADMINISTERED?
Botox® is most often administered after a local anesthetic has been injected into the treatment area. Because Botox® is not usually an uncomfortable procedure, many patients do not request medicine to reduce or prevent pain. Dr. Mittelman will then deliver Botox® into the muscles of your face by using an ultrafine hypodermic needle. Depending on the number and severity of the fine lines and wrinkles, some patients will need multiple injections. Typically, patients can expect the results of the treatment to last between four and six months before needing to return for additional treatments.
BOTOX® PROCEDURE PREPARATION
Before your scheduled treatment, you should notify Dr. Mittelman if you have received other kinds of injections within the past four months and if you’re taking allergy drugs, sleep aids or muscle relaxers. Dr. Mittelman recommends that you avoid medicines such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood-thinning drugs prior to your appointment. These types of drugs may increase the risk of bleeding and bruising.
BOTOX® RECOVERY
After your Botox® treatment, it’s a good idea to avoid participating in rigorous exercise and rubbing your face harshly. You are also encouraged to avoid exposing your face to prolonged pressure by not sleeping on your stomach or sides. In order to alleviate post-treatment discomfort, you can apply a cold compress to the treatment areas and take pain relievers. You will still be able to smile or frown after the Botox® procedure.
BOTOX® CONSULTATION
During your consultation, Dr. Mittelman will review your medical history, respond to any concerns and describe the procedure to you. During the meeting, don’t hesitate to ask as many questions as necessary so that you may gain a thorough understanding of the Botox® procedure.
BOTOX® FOR EXCESSIVE SWEATING (HYPERHIDROSIS)
Botox® has also been shown to be effective for other problems completely unrelated to facial lines and wrinkles. Botox® can help reduce excessive sweating of the armpits (hyperhidrosis). Hyperhidrosis treatments, like facial wrinkles, must be repeated to maintain effectiveness.
BOTOX® INJECTION MIGRAINE TREATMENTS
Botox® is also FDA-approved and useful for non-aesthetic facial problems, such as for the treatment of migraines. A few injections can produce a remarkable reduction in the severity and frequency of migraine headaches. Neuromuscular injections can be used as an effective treatment or as an adjuvant therapy with traditional pharmacologic migraine treatment.
HOW MUCH DOES BOTOX® TREATMENT COST IN SAN JOSE?
Because cosmetic procedures such as Botox® are not considered medically necessary, your insurance company probably will not cover the cost of treatment. To ensure that Botox® is accessible to as many patients as possible, Mittelman Plastic Surgery accepts credit cards, personal checks, and cash. Please contact us if you have any questions about the price of the Botox® procedure.
