BROW LIFT IN LOS ALTOS, CA
Located in Los Altos, Mittelman Plastic Surgery, led by board-certified facial plastic surgeon Harry Mittelman, MD, offers brow lifts for men and women who live in and around San Jose, Palo Alto and the surrounding communities of California. Forehead lifts, or brow lifts, will smooth aging forehead lines and raise the brows to eliminate the sagging and wrinkles associated with a tired, old appearance. Creases in the forehead are improved, droopy eyebrows corrected, hooded eyes erased and worry lines smoothed.
WHAT IS A BROW LIFT?
The brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a procedure performed to correct the look of the forehead region. Creases and worry lines are smoothed, and eye hooding, as well as sagging brows, are raised. Through this procedure, muscle position is adjusted, and unneeded soft tissue is removed to give the patient a fresh and youthful look.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I’M A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A BROW LIFT?
Patients should be overall healthy and have realistic goals for their brow lift procedure. If you’re unhappy with the look of your forehead region, a brow lift is probably for you.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING A CONSULTATION FOR A BROW LIFT?
During your brow lift consultation, Dr. Mittelman will review your medical history to determine if any medical issues could alter surgical results. You’ll learn how the procedure is performed, along with the risks and what you should do in the days before to prepare for your procedure.
WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA WILL I RECEIVE FOR MY BROW LIFT?
Most brow lifts are performed with a combination of sedation and local anesthetics, though general anesthesia may be required.
HOW ARE BROW LIFTS PERFORMED?
First, the patient will receive anesthesia. Next, an incision is created behind the patient’s hairline. The forehead skin is lifted, uncovering the layer of muscle and soft tissue beneath. Dr. Mittelman will reshape the muscle and skin to minimize the appearance of forehead lines, furrows and wrinkles.
In some cases, an endoscopic forehead lift may be performed. This procedure requires minor incisions around the hairline. An endoscopic camera is inserted, allowing Dr. Mittelman to see soft tissue and muscle, as well as make adjustments to these tissues.
Following the procedure, the incisions are closed via sutures and are bandaged.
HOW LONG IS THE SURGERY FOR A BROW LIFT?
Typically, a brow lift lasts around one hour, though depending on what is needed to enhance your brow, surgery can last up to two hours.
WHERE ARE THE INCISIONS LOCATED FOR A BROW LIFT?
A traditional brow lift uses larger incisions located by the hairline. Endoscopic brow lifts require a series of minor incisions in the same area.
WILL I HAVE SCARS AFTER MY FOREHEAD LIFT?
With a brow lift, nearly all scars from the incisions will be hidden by your hairline.
WILL I NEED SOMEONE ELSE TO DRIVE ME HOME AFTER MY BROW LIFT PROCEDURE OR WILL I BE ABLE TO DRIVE MYSELF?
No matter whether you are receiving local or general anesthetic, all patients are required to have transportation home from the procedure.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT OF THE RECOVERY AFTER MY BROW LIFT?
You will receive post-surgical instructions from Dr. Mittelman before departing our offices. Your bandages will be removed within a week, and we typically remove your stitches one to two weeks following your surgery. Numbness and minor headaches can be expected after a brow lift, as well as slight hair loss around the incision location.
HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I PLAN TO TAKE OFF FROM WORK AFTER MY BROW LIFT?
If you have undergone an endoscopic brow lift, you should be able to return to normal activities after four or five days. For traditional brow lifts, plan on taking seven to 10 days off.
HOW SOON AFTER MY BROW LIFT WILL I BE ABLE TO EXERCISE?
Give yourself three to four weeks before resuming exercise routines and physically strenuous activities. Rarely, it may be two or three months before physical activities can be resumed.
WHEN WILL THE STITCHES BE REMOVED AFTER MY BROW LIFT?
For endoscopic brow lifts, stitches can be taken out a week after surgery. For traditional brow lifts, stitches will be taken out within two weeks.
WILL MY BROW LIFT BE COVERED BY INSURANCE?
Brow lifts are typically considered cosmetic, and most insurance does not cover the procedure. Contact your insurance provider to learn your benefits.
