WHAT IS DYSPORT?

Dysport is a relatively new treatment, similar to Botox®, which temporarily smooths and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles.

When used alone is capable of significantly diminishing fine lines and wrinkles in the upper region of the face. When combined with a dermal filler, results may be enhanced with contouring and volume. During treatment, Dysport® is injected into facial muscles to alter their activity. The treatment temporarily relaxes the target muscle, preventing it from contracting, thus producing a smoother appearance.

DYSPORT® VS. BOTOX®

Although many people use the terms Dysport® and Botox® interchangeably, there are a few significant differences between the two products. Dysport typically takes effect more quickly than Botox®, often within a day of treatment, while Botox® may take five to seven days to begin taking effect.

There are also differences in dosages and pricing between Dysport and Botox. Whereas one patient may require one unit dosage of Botox®, that same patient might require two to three times that unit dosage of Dysport® in order to get the same effect. Nonetheless, over time, Dysport® and Botox® are comparable in value and price.

Additionally, Dysport® has a tendency to spread more than Botox®, which is taken into consideration while we administer the treatment.

WHY CHOOSE DYSPORT®?

If, after evaluating your condition during the initial evaluation, we determine that you would benefit from a Dysport® treatment, treatment may begin immediately. Dr. Mittelman will analyze your face to determine the amount of product required to achieve optimal results. Dysport® is injected via a syringe with a very fine needle. The procedure takes under 15 minutes, depending on the number of areas that are being treated, and a topical anesthetic, as well as ice packs, may be utilized to keep you comfortable. Most patients report minimal discomfort during the procedure. There are very few problems or complications after Dysport® treatments. In rare cases, temporary bruising may occur, but this subsides within two to three days. Some patients may experience discomfort around the injection site(s), and in rare cases, headache and inflammation.

ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR DYSPORT?

If you’ve started seeing wrinkles around your eyes, forehead and the upper bridge of the nose, then Dysport® may be right for you, as long as you are in generally good health. You should also maintain reasonable expectations regarding what Dysport® can do. Dysport® may not be suitable for you if you are allergic to abobotulinumtoxin.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE DYSPORT PROCEDURE?

Although the treatment is performed quickly, it may take several days before the results are totally visible. Bear in mind that initial results are typically seen within 24 hours. Although a small amount of discomfort may be experienced immediately following the procedure, it will normally subside quickly.

HOW SOON CAN I RETURN TO WORK AFTER DYSPORT®?

Dysport requires no recovery time so you may return to work immediately following the procedure. We recommend that you wait for 24 hours after treatment before exercising.
