Finding Your Perfect Pout – Lip Fillers
Everyone from reality stars to your Aunt Mathilda seems to be experimenting with lip plumbers, and the options for achieving the perfect pout are plentiful.
If you’re looking to change the shape of your lips, it is important to note that fullness, as the duck lip would have you believe, is not the only factor. Lips that look natural, never look overdone, are supported by a smooth and plump perioral area which requires the injector to have not only technical skill and experience but an artistic eye.
Depending on your unique concerns and aesthetic taste, you and your provider may elect to try one filler or a combination of lip fillers.
Lip Concerns
For Thinning Lips, Try Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm, Volbella
These three fillers were designed to increase lip volume – Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm and Volbella. All three lip fillers have a high concentration of non-animal, cross-linked hyaluronic acid which can provide a long-lasting volume boost.

Juvderm Ultra offers the fullest look while Juvderm provides a standard fullness and Volbella, the newest, provides a subtle, softness to the lips.
After numbing cream is applied, the lip filler is injected directly under the skin, and you’ll be encouraged to massage your lips to spread the filler evenly. You may see instant results but because these formulations are water-soluble, the final result will most likely appear in 3 to 4 days.
For Wrinkles around the Mouth / “Smoker’s Lines”
Try Volbella or Restylane Refyne
Wrinkles around the mouth, also called “lipstick bleed lines” or “smoker’s lines” can be caused by smoking but also by sun exposure, aging, genetics, using straws or some combination of all and usually make a person look older than they actually are. A dermal filler such as Restylane Refine can plump the skin around the lips which will give the lips a smoother, more supple appearance. Refyne is a soft and flexible lip filler so it integrates naturally with expressions.

For shallow wrinkles, the less viscous and smoother Volbella can be used. Volbella can last up to 12 months.
For Deep Facial Creases (Smile Lines or Nasolabial Folds),
Try Voluma, Restylane Defyne, Juvederm XC, Belotero
When collagen production slows, your skin loses its ability to remain taut and can begin to sag, creating deep creases. One of the most prominent areas that patients want to correct are the lines between the mouth and cheek – the nasolabial folds or “smile lines.”

To smooth out these creases, additional volume is needed so your provider might choose a thicker hyaluronic acid lip filler such as Juvederm Voluma, Perlane, Belotero or Restylane Defyne.
Even though these thicker lip fillers provide more volume, they have a smooth gel consistency and were designed to integrate naturally into skin tissues. For some patients, the addition of BOTOX® Cosmetic will provide an additional lifting effect for a more complete rejuvenation.
The thicker lip fillers can take up to 10 days for swelling to decrease, but the results can sometimes last for up to two years.
