WHAT IS FACIAL LIPOSUCTION?

Excess fat, which sits on your neck, jawline, cheeks or chin, can be difficult to rid through diet and exercise, creating a source of frustration for many who have worked so hard to improve their physique. Fortunately, these stubborn facial fat deposits can be removed through facial liposuction.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR FACIAL LIPOSUCTION?

Good candidates for facial liposuction are those who despite their best efforts, are unable to reduce the appearance of excess fat deposits on the neck, jaw and cheeks. Young patients often benefit from the facial liposuction procedure only, though older patients often wish to reverse other effects of aging by combining facial liposuction with procedures, such as a facelift, blepharoplasty or brow lift.

It is important that patients have reasonable expectations for their surgical results. Facial liposuction offers subtle improvements to the appearance, not dramatic changes – the results will be permanent, though, as fat cells are totally removed from these facial regions.

WHO ARE THE BEST CANDIDATES FOR FACIAL LIPOSUCTION?

If you have unwanted fat deposits located in the cheek, neck or jaw region, you may be a candidate for facial liposuction if:

• You are in good health overall
• Your facial fat is not proportionate to the rest of your body
• You have strong skin elasticity
• You have realistic expectations for the procedure

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE FACIAL LIPOSUCTION PROCEDURE?

Facial liposuction is generally performed under local anesthesia with sedation unless multiple procedures are being performed at the same time. Dr. Mittelman and his surgical team will address your comfort needs to keep you from undergoing pain during the procedure.

During your consultation, anesthesia options will be reviewed to determine the best solution for your situation.

During the facial liposuction procedure, Dr. Mittelman will create incisions inside the mouth or below your chin; all incisions are minor and typically do not create noticeable scars. A cannula is inserted through the incision and is used to loosen fat deposits while removing them. The cannula is used by Dr. Mittelman to contour the facial area, producing the desired results along the neckline and face.

IS THE FAT REMOVAL PERMANENT?

Fat removal through facial liposuction is permanent, as fat cells are completely removed from the body. If weight is gained after you undergo facial liposuction, you will not see new fat in the face, as new fat cells do not typically develop after puberty; any weight gain will be noticed in the remaining fat cells throughout the body.

WILL I NEED A SECOND FACIAL LIPOSUCTION PROCEDURE?

One session of facial liposuction is all most patients need, though, in some cases, results can be enhanced through a second procedure down the road.

FACIAL LIPOSUCTION: RECOVERY AND RESULTS

Expect some degree of swelling, discomfort and bruising following your procedure; you’ll be prescribed pain medication to make you more comfortable. A dressing will be applied and left in place for days following your surgery to promote healing. Dr. Mittelman will monitor you for healing following your surgery and provide you with instructions as to when work and other activities can be resumed; most patients find they can return to work after a week or two, once bruising and facial swelling have resolved.
