WHAT IS MACRODERMABRASION?

For skincare enthusiasts, MACROdermabrasion is essential to maintaining healthy, glowing skin. This non-invasive treatment gently removes dead surface skin cells and increases the rate of cellular turnover, promoting the formation of new supple, clearer skin. MACROdermabrasion™ utilizes environmentally safe salt crystals to apply positive pressure to the skin in a painless and soothing manner. In addition to making dramatic improvements in the appearance of the skin, removing dead surface skin cells enhances the absorption and effectiveness of topical skin care products.

Microdermabrasion removes dead skin cells by buffing tiny aluminum oxide crystals across the skin and using a vacuum to remove them. As the buffing rate and suction pressure increase, a greater amount of dead skin cells is removed from the skin’s surface. However, more isn’t always better, as the skin can only withstand a certain amount of pressure without bruising and/or becoming irritated.

Additionally, researchers have linked the aluminum oxide or aluminum oxide dust used in microdermabrasion to several health problems. Even short-term exposure has been linked to respiratory issues, and eye irritation and long-term exposure has been linked to nervous system disorders, including Alzheimer’s.

In contrast to microdermabrasion, Salt-A-Peel™ MACROdermabrasion™ blows water-soluble, non-toxic, and mineral-rich salt crystals across the skin to safely and gently extract impurities. The difference may seem insignificant, but on a microscopic level, it makes a huge difference in the skin. From a health standpoint, exposure to salt doesn’t pose any known health hazards since it is a naturally occurring substance. Additionally, Salt-A-Peel™ is applied to the skin using positive pressure, so the risks of vacuum-induced erythema (inflammation) and skin irritation are greatly reduced and nearly eliminated. Patients who have undergone both the Salt-A-Peel™ and microdermabrasion therapies report Salt-A-Peel™ as the clear frontrunner between the two therapies, with most patients experiencing noticeable results in less time and with fewer Salt-A-Peel™ treatments.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME AFTER MACRODERMABRASION?

MACROdermabrasion™ is often considered a “lunchtime peel” because the speed and recovery time of the procedure involves no downtime. Your skin will instantly appear brighter and feel softer, and most patients apply makeup and resume their normal routines immediately after treatment.

CAN MACROdermabrasion BE COMBINED WITH INJECTABLE FILLERS AND BOTOX?

It is a wonderful complement to other cosmetic procedures, such as Botox® or fillers. In fact, many of our patients find their regularly scheduled appointments for Botox® or fillers an ideal time to add on a MACROdermabrasion™ session. Adding a MACROdermabrasion™ session to other treatments is never a problem, as long as you provide our staff advance notice so that the appropriate amount of time can be reserved with Dr. Mittelman.

HOW MUCH DOES MACROdermabrasion COST IN SAN JOSE?

Most health insurance providers do not provide coverage for elective procedures such as MACROdermabrasion. In order to make beautiful skin more affordable for his patients, Dr. Mittelman accepts payments in the form of cash, personal checks, and credit cards.
