WHAT IS RESTYLANE?

Restylane is a dermal filler comprised of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance that absorbs water and binds with it, helping skin remain hydrated and leading to a smoother, younger-looking appearance. During the natural course of aging, the skin decreases its production of HA and starts to lose vital hydration that is essential to its smoothness, plumpness, and radiance. Without adequate hydration, skin becomes lax and thin, and its underlying support structure collapses, causing folds, wrinkles, creases and lines in the skin. Restylane® restores the skin’s supply of HA, supporting increased hydration in the layers beneath the surface of the skin that plumps up the skin, improving its volume and reducing the appearance of lines, wrinkles, creases and folds.

The Restylane® family of injectable dermal fillers is made from clear gels containing HA, and each product is designed to mimic the HA that is naturally produced by your own body while adding volume and contour to specific problem areas on your face.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR RESTYLANE®?

Restylane® is FDA-approved and has been used safely by doctors all over the world in over 10 million treatments. Although Restylane® consists of natural, biocompatible ingredients and allergic reactions are rare, please notify Dr. Mittelman prior to treatment if you have a history of allergic reactions or any ongoing health problems. Also, inform Dr. Mittelman if you’ve recently had any other injections or if you’re currently taking any medications or supplements. You may have to postpone treatment if you have an active infection, rash, acne, cold sore, inflammation or skin irritation.

HOW IS RESTYLANE® ADMINISTERED?

Dr. Mittelman will apply a topical anesthetic to your skin to reduce the possibility of discomfort. He will then inject the Restylane® gel directly into your skin with an ultrafine needle. You will see some results immediately after the procedure, but the beauty of HA-based fillers is that results become more apparent over time. Results from a Restylane® treatment typically last between 10 and 12 months.
