What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy® lifts, tightens and tones loose skin to counteract the effects of time and gravity. One of the first effects of gravity is that the brows descend, and the eyes start to appear smaller. Ultherapy® will lift the brow, which, in turn, reduces the excess skin on the lids, opens up the eyes and gives a more refreshed appearance. When the skin on the cheeks and neck begins to shift downward, the result is a change in the contour of the lower face. Ultherapy® can lift and tighten the sagging skin on the cheeks and neck to give a younger, slimmer look.

How Does Ultherapy Work?

Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound energy to deliver heat to deep tissue without disturbing the skin’s surface. This process triggers the growth of new collagen in the skin which helps lift and tighten the skin over time. Results gradually become noticeable over a two to three month period with continued improvements seen up to six months after the procedure.

How is Ultherapy Different from Other Cosmetic Procedures?

Ultherapy is designated as the only non-invasive, cosmetic treatment that utilizes focused ultrasound technology to promote the growth of the skin’s collagen cells. This increase in production is gradual, so results generally take between three to six months to become visible. The procedure takes around an hour in most cases and involves no downtime afterward. No other cosmetic treatment or procedure in the world uses ultrasound imaging. With Ultherapy®, physicians are able to see the underlying layers of skin tissue they are targeting for treatment, allowing them to ensure that the energy is placed in those areas where it will be the most effective.

How Long Does Ultherapy Last?

Within a year of undergoing Ultherapy® treatment, patients are able to enjoy renewed collagen. It must be noted, however, that this treatment does not prevent aging of the skin. Having periodic touch-up treatments will help ward off the natural signs of aging, but the rate of aging varies from person to person.

How Many Treatments Does it Take to See Results from Ultherapy®?

Most patients will require only one treatment. However, more than one treatment may be necessary for some patients to achieve their desired result. The number of treatments needed will depend on the body’s response to the ultrasound, the laxity of the skin and the level to which the collagen-building was effective.

Who is a Good Candidate for Ultherapy?

The ideal candidate is someone with skin that has some looseness to it. Those people with maturing skin that has begun to sag around the eyelids and brow line, as well as those individuals with loose skin under their chin and neck, are also good candidates. The typical Ultherapy® patient is in their 30s or older with mild to moderate skin laxity.

In must be noted that Ultherapy® is not a substitute for a surgical facelift. However, it may be a good alternative for those who are not mentally, physically or financially ready to undergo such a surgical procedure. Ultherapy® may also interest younger individuals who are looking to prevent the signs of aging and those who wish to maintain the effects of prior cosmetic treatments.

What about Treating Anatomical Regions Other Than the Face?

Ultherapy is only designed to lift skin on the chin, brow and neck and cannot be used elsewhere.

How Does Ultherapy® Stimulate the Creation of Collagen?

Collagen is a natural protein of the skin that helps it remain firm and retain a youthful appearance. As we age, the strength of the collagen decreases and the skin begins to sag as a result. Ultherapy® treatment involves the use of ultrasound waves to create a heat effect to treat the skin tissue underneath the epidermis. This therapy initiates the strengthening and repair of existing collagen in the skin and creates new collagen, as well.
